The Charlotte area is seeing amazing growth, both in and around Uptown and the surrounding suburban communities. In today’s post, we’ll highlight what we think are some of Charlotte’s best suburbs and why.
Listed as one of the best Charlotte suburbs by Charlotte Agenda, Huntersville is about 15 minutes north of Uptown Charlotte and is home to approximately 55,000. The town offers a nice combination of suburban charm and urban amenities, with the median home value coming in at around $250,000.
Long considered the premiere Charlotte suburb, Huntersville takes pride in offering its residents a charming downtown, close proximity to Lake Norman, a wide range of businesses and recreational opportunities, and an overall high quality of life.
As Charlotte Agenda put it, “It’s the suburb that all other suburbs are judged by.”
Considered one of the more affluent communities, Davidson is about 22 miles north of Uptown with commuters to Charlotte spending roughly 23 minutes getting to their destination. The median income is high in this Charlotte suburb and home prices are equally elevated.
According to November data from Realtor.com, the median list price in Davidson is $434,000 and the median sale price is $331,000.
Davidson is also a college town, as it is home to the prestigious Davidson College and its many students and faculty. Due to the high diversity of age groups living in the area, Davidson’s vibe is a blend of hip entertainment options with amenities for the older crowd.
Speaking of entertainment, there is more than plenty to see and do in Davidson. See a live performance at Duke Family Performance Hall, go for a jog at Roosevelt Wilson Park, or meet up with friends to try a few craft beers at Davidson Beverage Company. There’s also the Davidson’s Farmer’s Market, specialty shops and boutiques and Tour De Food – a unique culinary tour that takes you on a delicious journey to explore several area restaurants.
Just about 10 miles west of Uptown Charlotte in Gaston County, the city of Belmont boasts affordable homes, a lovely riverfront recreation center, and an active and tight-knit community.
Real estate prices are hard to beat, especially considering the close proximity to Charlotte. The median list price is $275,000 according to Realtor.com and the median closing price is just under $230,000.
In addition to reasonably priced homes and beautiful scenery, the city of Belmont also offers residents access to fun events throughout the year, a variety of amazing restaurants, and exceptional schools. Belmont Central Elementary, South Point High School and Stuart W. Cramer High School are all top-rated by GreatSchools.org. Plus, Belmont is home to Belmont Abbey College, a private, liberal arts Catholic college.
Belmont is also home to the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens, making the city’s motto quite appropriate: "Where Southern Charm Blossoms."
